North Beach Community Expresses Strong Support for Students with Levy Vote
On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, North Beach voters continued to express support for the community’s children by endorsing the replacement maintenance and operations levy with a nearly 60 percent yes vote.
This replacement maintenance and operations levy will bring in between $1.7 and 2.5 million over the next two years, depending on assessed home value within the district.
An elated Superintendent Kelly said, “Our entire staff is working so hard to create trust with our community and deliver on the promise to prepare each of our kids for college, the world of work, military, trade school, or whatever their future path entails.” Kelly went on to say, “Ideally local levies wouldn’t be necessary, but there is a gap between the state funding allocation and what is necessary to provide the quality of education that our kids deserve.”
When Kelly was hired by the North Beach School Board in July of 2018, the district was coming off of a tumultuous exit to the previous superintendent and the expressed need to improve student achievement for the students within the district. The Board of Directors has set bold goals to improve the district and is very clear about the sense of urgency to do so. The district has aggressively worked to improve the adult culture and to begin to build the structures and provide the strategies to support teachers and classified staff to provide what each student needs to succeed.
Ocean Shores Elementary Principal Rhonda Ham also believes that the future is bright for North Beach. “The last 18 months have been the best in my career. I feel like we are working together collaboratively in a supportive environment to get things done for our kids. As an educator for over 30 years, that feels great!”
The future is bright for North Beach. It appears that the district tagline, #riseABOVEtheTIDE might just be an indicator of good things to come.
