Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Steven Fry

Where are you from? - I was born and raised in the North Beach area, as I grew up in Aloha and I currently reside in Copalis Crossing. I love the beautiful PNW and I am a proud resident of Grays Harbor County!

High school and college experience - I graduated from North Beach High School and Grays Harbor College in 2015 as Co-Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. I graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in Geography. After completing several courses on historical literature, I finished with a 3.75 GPA and received the Dean’s Honored Student for History and the 2019 History Outstanding Graduate awards. I am currently enrolled in an online graduate program from Grand Canyon University where I will be earning a Master of Secondary Education degree by November 2021.

Years of teaching and administrative experience  - I am proud to be entering my second year as the ELA teacher here at NBHS. Last year I taught Literature and Language, Bridge to College English (BTCE), Introduction to Literature (ENGL 170) and English Composition (ENGL 101). I am excited to continue my partnership with EWU’s English department in offering College in the High School (CiHS) courses to our upperclassmen for college credit!

Areas of knowledge - I am a lifelong learner, so I am growing in my areas of knowledge with each new day. As an avid reader and writer, I have significant experience with literary elements and writing technique. I enjoy thinking deeply about thematic purposes in stories and allowing character developments to inspire my own personal growth and reflection. My favorite reading genres are historical, allegory, and fantasy.  My favorite writing style is argumentative research.

Words of wisdom - “Wisdom is more profitable than silver, it is worth more than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with it.”

—Solomon, King of Israel, c. 950 BC.

Favorite quote - “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

—Jesus Christ, c. 30 AD.

How would you describe yourself and your hobbies and interests - I love my family and I am so grateful to partner with my amazing wife, Caitlin, in raising our two kids, Elliott (2) and Adaleena (1). I have many different personal interests, including reading, exploring (hiking, traveling, etc.), gaming (sports, video games, board games, any kind of game really…), working (projects, home improvement, etc.), and conversing (with just about everyone I meet). I live life to the fullest and I am grateful for each new day! 😄
